Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two structure fires this evening.
Leila Avenue fire
At 5:48 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 300 block of Leila Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from the house. They entered and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:21 p.m.
All occupants of the house safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. There were no injuries reported. Firefighters rescued two cats from the house, reuniting them with their owners.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was called to help displaced residents find temporary accommodations.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction. Damage estimates are not currently available.
Langside Street fire
At 8:01 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey residence in the 500 block of Langside Street.
When they arrived at the scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the house. They launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:13 p.m.
Crews completed a search of the house, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
