Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Main Street and Bannatyne Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two structure fires today.

Main Street fire

At 11:29 a.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey commercial building in the 1400 block of Main Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the building. They entered and launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 1:40 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The building sustained significant damage from smoke, fire and water. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Bannatyne Avenue fire

At 4:21 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 500 block of Bannatyne Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, crews found smoke coming from the structure. They made entry to the building and launched a fire attack from inside. The fire was declared under control at 4:45 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure, and no occupants were located. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time. The house had previously been damaged by fire in April 2023 and June 2021.

If residents see someone actively entering a vacant structure or removing boards from windows or doors, they should report the incident immediately by calling the Winnipeg Police Service at 911.

Anyone who sees that boarded windows or doors have been breached, but did not see someone actively entering or attempting to enter a structure should report the incident to 311.
