Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Pritchard Avenue and McPhillips Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires last night.

Pritchard Avenue fire

At 6:12 a.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 700 block of Pritchard Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Crews entered and fought the fire from the interior. The fire was declared under control at 6:52 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the building, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

McPhillips Street fire

At 1:28 a.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in single-family bungalow in the 600 block of McPhillips Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Due to the heavy fire conditions, crews launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior. Once conditions improved, they transitioned to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 2:12 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the house, and no occupants were found. One firefighter was injured while on scene and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
