Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Redwood Avenue and Toronto Street

Winnipeg, MB – On Friday, November 29, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.

Redwood Avenue fire

At 11:04 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, boarded up house in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

At the scene, firefighters saw smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 11:37 a.m. Firefighters searched the house to confirm there were no occupants inside. No injuries were reported.

The house was previously damaged by fires in November 2023, December 2023, and on October 16, 2024 and October 27, 2024


The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.

If you see boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you did not see someone actively entering or attempting to enter the structure, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.

Toronto Street fire

At 1:04 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 500 block of Toronto Street. At the scene, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the house.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the building and the fire was under control within an hour.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. Paramedics assessed two patients but no transportation to hospital was required.

Firefighters located one dog and one cat that were deceased and they removed four other cats from the building. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency responded to the scene to care for the animals.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
