Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to two structure fires early Thursday morning.

Ruby Street fire

At 1:23 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of fire at a two-storey house in the 200 block of Ruby Street.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. They went inside the house to launch an offensive fire attack, using handlines to apply water to the fire. It was declared under control at 1:47 a.m.

Occupants of the home self-evacuated before crews arrived on scene. There were no injuries reported.

Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.

Nairn Avenue fire

At 3:15 a.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of fire at a vacant, boarded up one-storey house in the 300 block of Nairn Avenue.

There was smoke coming from the structure when crews arrived on scene. Firefighters launched a defensive fire attack and fought the fire from outside the building. The fire was under control at 4:17 a.m.

Due to unsafe conditions, crews were not able to enter the structure. They completed a search of the house from the exterior of the structure, and it was all clear.

No injuries were reported.

Damage estimates are not available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
