12-year-old girl dies after being thrown from a toboggan pulled by snowmobile

A 12-year-old girl is dead after being thrown from a toboggan that was being pulled by a snowmobile in northern Manitoba.

The incident happened on Jan. 10 at around 8 p.m. near God’s Lake Narrow.

RCMP say a snowmobile driven by a 12-year-old boy with a 14-year-old passenger was pulling a toboggan with three passengers, all 12 years of age, when the toboggan struck a tree stump on the path.

When officers arrived at the scene, no one was there. However, they quickly learned the snowmobile driver had driven to the Nursing Station for help.

A medical van attended to the scene and transported the victim to the Nursing Station where she succumbed to her injuries.

God’s Lake Narrow RCMP say that none of the children were wearing helmets.

The investigation is ongoing.
