3 youths injured in crash involving ATV in Shamattawa

Three youths are recovering following a collision involving an ATV

At around 8:30 p.m. last Friday, a vehicle carrying four people, two adults and two children, collided with an ATV, driven by a 13-year-old, with two male passengers.  The crash happened near the intersection of Main Street and Hudson Bay Avenue in Shamattawa.

All three youths on the ATV sustained serious injuries. RCMP, the only first responders at the scene, provided medical assistance to the youth. With help from bystanders, the officers transported all three youths to the nursing station. From there they were transported to Winnipeg for further treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old male, and passenger, a 21-year-old female, were not injured. The two children in the vehicle, aged 9 and 10, suffered minor injuries and were taken to the nursing station.

This was a very traumatic and difficult scene for all involved and my heart goes out to the families and community members affected by this terrible collision,” said Superintendent Paul Peddle, Officer in Charge of Manitoba North District. “I commend the officers and community members who worked together to help the injured and get them medical assistance as soon as possible, likely saving lives.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
