Crews battle 2 blazes in vacant buildings Saturday evening

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two separate fires in vacant buildings on Saturday evening.

Fire on Logan Avenue

Crews were called to a fire in the 900 block of Logan Avenue at 6:09 p.m. on October 19, 2024.

The industrial structure, which had been previously damaged by fires in May 2024 and August 2023, was found emitting smoke when firefighters arrived. Due to the extent of prior damage, it was unsafe for crews to enter, prompting a defensive fire attack from the outside.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire on Laura Street

Shortly afterward, at 6:45 p.m., the WFPS responded to a second fire at a vacant bungalow in the 200 block of Laura Street.

Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the home. They entered the structure, bringing the fire under control by 7:22 p.m. No one was inside the building, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of this fire is also under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available.
