Extreme cold leads to school closures and bus cancellations in Winnipeg and across Manitoba

An extreme cold warning remains in effect for southern Manitoba, including the city of Winnipeg.

Wind chill values are sitting in the -40 to -50 range this morning as bitterly cold arctic air remains over the region.

Environment Canada says extreme cold puts everyone at risk. And with these windchills, frostbite can occur within minutes.

This has led to school divisions across the province closing their doors for the day or cancelling bus service.
