Former Seven Oaks teacher faces sexual assault and exploitation charges

A former teacher in the Seven Oaks School Division is facing sexual assault and exploitation charges.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in October 2024, the Sex Crimes Unit entered into an investigation after a student came forward and shared information.

Winnipeg police say the survivor, who is now an adult, reported that between May 2019 and August 2020, when she was a teenager, she attended an afterschool program within the Seven Oaks School Division.

She alleges, a student support worker who was helping her, groomed her, resulting in a sexually exploiative relationship.

On Nov. 3, members of the Sex Crimes Unit arrested and charged 37-year-old Matthew Mousseau. He remains in custody.

Investigators determined that Mousseau had been employed as a teacher in several schools in Winnipeg until May 2024, but is no longer a teacher.
