Habitat for Humanity Manitoba hosts its largest key ceremony

Habitat for Humanity Manitoba recently celebrated its largest key ceremony.

On Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, over 15 families received the keys to their new homes on the Pandora Avenue West build site.

“This day was made possible thanks to the thousands of volunteers, generous donors, incredible sponsors, and our dedicated corporate and government partners,” said Habitat for Humanity Manitoba in a post on Facebook. “Your support has turned dreams into reality for these families, and we are deeply grateful.”

The Pandora Avenue West Development in Transcona is the largest and most ambitious project Habitat Manitoba has ever embarked upon. There will be 55 homes built in total and the development, which is being built on three acres of land, will be home to approximately 275 people, including 175 children.

“Today is more than just a celebration of houses built, it is a celebration of dreams realized, futures secured, and lived forever changed,” said Rosemary Ellis, who will move into one of the townhouses with her four children.

Ellis spent many years living on the streets, involved in the sex trade and drug scene. She is now off the streets, independent and working as a community minister for Inner City Youth Alive.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
