Home goes up in flames twice within a month, claims life of cat

A fire Tuesday night has claimed the life of a cat.

The blaze broke out in a vacant, two-storey multi-family residence in the 600 block of Flora Avenue just before 11 p.m. last night.

This is the second time this home has fallen victim to fire in less than a month.

On Nov. 9, fire crews responded to the same home. While most residents were able to evacuate safely, firefighters had to rescue two people. They were assessed by paramedics on-scene and did not need further treatment.

This time around, when crews arrived, heavy smoke and flames were pouring out of the home. Firefighters attacked the fire from the exterior before being able to enter the building. The fire was declared under control about an hour later.

No one was in the building and no injuries were reported. However, one cat was found dead in the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
