Various superheroes will swing into action Friday afternoon to help kids in Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital make unforgettable memories.
One of those superheroes is Josh Pchajek, also known as the Winnipeg Webhead.
“I play Spiderman at birthday parties, Make a Wish and Dream Factory events,” said Pchajek. “It’s the most amazing job in the world.”
His passion for this started three years ago when he helped a local equipment rental company set up for a Dream Factory event.
“This kid Ethan’s dream was to go to Disneyland. However, because of his worsening condition, leukemia, the Dream Factory brought Disneyland here,” Pchajek explained. “They didn’t have anyone to play Spiderman, his favourite superhero, so I had a costume that I put on for it, and I’ve been doing it ever since.”
Josh says Ethan has since passed away, but he remains in good contact with the family.
“They actually came to my baptism,” said Josh. “He’s a huge part of my story.”
This afternoon, Josh will bring that same joy to children in hospital in Winnipeg as he takes part in the third annual Suspended Superheroes event.
“We’re going to repel down in costumes, wave to the kids, and play tic tac toe on the windows,” said Pchajek. “This one’s going to be really special.
He says although he can’t actually stick to walls or swing from webs, it will be cool for these kids to see Spiderman hanging outside their window.
“I’m very blessed to be able to be a part of this. It’s really awesome just being able to be a part of something so much bigger than myself and being able to bring that joy and share my faith like this.”
The Suspended Superheroes will begin their rappel down the side of Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital at 1:30 p.m. today.
