Lane closures expected next week as preparations get underway to reopen Portage & Main

As the city prepares to reopen Winnipeg’s iconic Portage & Main intersection motorists can expect delays in the area starting as early as next week.

Over the next four weeks, as traffic signal crews start some pre-construction work sections of both roads’ curb and median lanes will be closed intermittently.

These preparations, which could start as early as Tuesday, Oct. 15, will allow a contractor to begin demolition of the concrete barricades and other major construction work.

The main construction of the intersection will get underway on Nov. 15 and the city expects to release more construction staging details and associated traffic impacts then.
