Winnipeg police arrested a man after responding to reports of a passenger carrying a hatchet on a city bus on January 17.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., North District General Patrol officers were dispatched to the scene.
The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Winnipeg man, was taken into custody without incident after exiting the bus at Pioneer Avenue and Main Street.
A fellow passenger on the bus had noticed the suspect holding what appeared to be a hatchet and contacted police.
The investigation revealed that the bus operator had confiscated the weapon from the suspect before officers arrived. No threats were made to passengers, and no injuries were reported.
However, while in custody, Savage allegedly threatened to kill the attending officers.
He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of a weapon
- Utter threats – cause death or bodily harm (two counts)
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Fail to comply with condition of release order
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities confirmed that public safety was not compromised during the incident.
