Manitobans experience double light show, with northern lights and shooting stars filling the night sky

Manitobans were treated to an amazing light show Sunday evening into Monday morning.

Aurora borealis lit up the night sky, and people from all across the province, including Winnipeg, posted photos on social media.

Not only were Manitobans treated to a spectacular evening filled with northern lights, but it was also the peak of the Perseid Meteor shower, with many, including Kri Za, also witnessing shooting stars streaking across the night sky.

RJ Roldan says he’s used to watching the northern lights in Northern Manitoba and was shocked to see them in Winnipeg.

“Tonight, I witnessed the dancing bright red #aurora in Winnipeg. The city’s light pollution didn’t stop the #auroraborealis from putting on a great show.”

This year, Manitobans have had several chances to take in the northern lights, with more opportunities expected before the end of summer.
