Operation Red Nose is just steps away from being ready for another holiday season.
Earlier this year, Operation Red Nose announced that after almost three decades of supporting their work, Manta Swim Club handed the reins to the Winnipeg Kids Foundation, a newly created non-profit focused on helping underprivileged Winnipeg youth.
This new partnership came with plenty of changes behind the scenes, which led to some hefty expenses, including a new website and social media pages, replacing hospitality equipment to feed volunteers and investments in upgrading cellphone equipment and computer systems.
Thanks to the generosity of Winnipeggers and help from sponsors, ORN Winnipeg is preparing to launch later this month.
As preparations begin for a new season, they are now in need of volunteers.
“We have plenty of volunteer positions open,” said Elisha Dacey, volunteer media liaison with ORN Winnipeg. “Drivers, of course, but also working at our headquarters on drive nights and even being part of one of our committees.”
Dacey, who has also spent time with the driving team, says it’s a great way to get involved in the community.
“I’ve always had an excellent time. I’ve met numerous Winnipeggers and made friends. And because safety is paramount, driving teams are in groups of three.”
She says it doesn’t have been a full-time commitment.
“Volunteering on one or two nights with ORN Winnipeg is also an excellent way to help give back.”
