Police shoot aggressive dog after four people injured in Elmwood attack

A dog is dead after being shot by police, and four people are recovering from injuries following a dog attack on Stadacona Street in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the incident took place on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, with police arriving to find the victims and the aggressive dog still on the loose.

Victims receive emergency medical care

Officers provided emergency care to a 16-year-old girl who had suffered serious upper-body injuries, applying a tourniquet before she was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Three adults, a 48-year-old woman, a 67-year-old man, and a 73-year-old man, also sustained upper-body injuries and sought treatment at the hospital. None of the injuries are life-threatening.

Police shoot aggressive dog to prevent further attacks

Bystanders had managed to corral the dog, but it remained highly aggressive.

Police used a firearm to stop the dog when it continued to pose a threat to public safety.

Owner and Animal Services informed

The dog’s owner and Winnipeg Animal Services have been notified.

Authorities are investigating the incident, but no further details have been released at this time.
