As the city continues to prepare for the reopening of the iconic intersection of Portage and Main, motorists can expect some significant delays starting next week.
The city says starting Tuesday, Nov. 12, Portage Avenue East will be closed in both directions for an entire week as part of pre-construction traffic signal work.
It will also accommodate underground work to help prepare for the demolition of the concrete barricades and other major construction expected in the area.
Local access to the Fairmont Hotel and surrounding surface lots will be maintained via Lombard Street, and a portion of the busy roadway will reopen to accommodate the annual Santa Claus Parade on Nov. 16.
The main construction of the intersection is expected to get underway on Nov. 15.
