Province invests millions in road construction projects throughout Southern Manitoba

Southern Manitoba will see significant road repairs this season as the province invests nearly $50 million into street construction.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor made the announcement on Tuesday, saying $49 million will be used towards critical road construction projects that will help enhance safety, strengthen the economy and make it easier for drivers to get around.

The funds will be split amongst projects that have already been completed, are currently underway or are scheduled to start very shortly.

Some of those projects include the reconstruction of the southbound lanes of Highway 75 from St. Jean Baptiste to Morris, new pavement with speed reduction design on PR 216 in Kleefeld and the completion of the intersection construction on the Trans-Canada Highway at Deacon’s Corner.

“The announcement of repairs to highway 75 south of Morris through the Municipality of Montcalm is great and long overdue news,” said Reeve Paul Gilmore, Rural Municipality of Montcalm “I’m certain our ratepayers will applaud this initiative along with the thousands of travellers on this major highway connecting Manitoba to our southern neighbours!”

Budget 2024 invests $500 million in capital funding to repair and rebuild Manitoba’s highways and public infrastructure to spur economic development and make it easier to get around the province.
