River levels to drop in Winnipeg prompting WPS to remind Winnipeggers to be safe around bodies of water

River levels in Winnipeg are expected to drop significantly over the next few weeks.

As a result, city boat launches are being removed and the Winnipeg Police Service is reminding Winnipeggers to be safe around bodies of water.

“We advise all boaters to remove their boats and docks by October 15,” said the Winnipeg Police Service in a post on X.

They also warn Winnipeggers that waterways across the city have also dropped in temperature, which could lead to hypothermia for anyone who may fall into the water.

“Please exercise caution around all bodies of water, including rivers, streams, creeks, and retention ponds. Stay safe!”

Winnipeg’s rivers will gradually drop by approximately 6.5 feet over the course of two weeks.
