‘There’s hundreds of thousands of books here’: Annual Book Market is open to raise money for HSC

Winnipeggers are invited to support a good cause while picking up some new reading material on Friday and Saturday at St. Vital Centre.

The busy mall is hosting the 64 annual Children’s Hospital Book Market, with all proceeds going to HSC Children’s Hospital to help sick and injured kids.

The two-day event relies on more than 300 volunteers. “We are so grateful for the incredible support of our community of dedicated volunteers and their commitment to give back to the Children’s Hospital Book Market,” says Carol Irving, Book Market Coordinator.

Irving says, “There is absolutely every genre that you could imagine. We have fiction, we have mystery, we have art, we have children’s. We have approximately 413 tables at the mall, we’re all over the mall, each table is full of books so there’s hundreds of thousands of books here.” Shoppers will also be able to take advantage of the discounted price of the books.

Each year the Book Market raises between $300,000 and $500,000 for the Child Life program at HSC.

The Book Market is open at St. Vital Centre on Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 28.
