Two charged for fraud following September 2024 collision

New information has been discovered following an investigation after a motor vehicle collision that occurred in September 2024 at the intersection of St. Anne’s Road and Granby Bay.

On Sept. 29, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m. an 18-year-old female was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on St. Anne’s Road. 

The victim was transported to the hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

The investigation revealed that the two suspects had fraudulently reported the collision to Manitoba Public Insurance. Two Winnipeggers, a 47-year-old male and a 45-year-old female face the following charges: 

  • Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Knowing That or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident Causing Bodily Harm
  • Fraud Over $5,000

The male has also been issued Provincial Offence Notices under the Highway Traffic Act for driving carelessly and as a driver of a vehicle involved in an accident, fail to give required information to a person injured in the accident.

Both were released on Appearance Notices as mandated by the Criminal Code.
