U of M cancels classes as Winnipeg police continue to search for armed male

A shelter-in-place advisory has been issued at the University of Manitoba as Winnipeg police continue to search for an armed male.

At around 6:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received reports of a male armed with a knife at the Allen Building, which is located at 30 Sifton Road, at the U of M Campus.

The University is now asking anyone on campus to remain where they are, stay in place and lock their doors. 

“If you are not on campus, please do not come,” said the Univesity of Manitoba in a post on X

All classes, exams and events at the University of Manitoba have been cancelled for the day. 

The suspect is described as a black male wearing black clothing in possession of a large kitchen knife. 

Anyone who sees this individual is asked not to approach and call 9-1-1.
