U of W students, staff and faculty asked to change passwords following cyberattack

Students, staff and faculty at the University of Winnipeg are being asked to change their UWinnipeg passwords after the institution fell victim to a cyberattack just over a week ago.

During a town hall meeting on Monday, the school’s president described the attack as targeted and criminal.

Students, staff and faculty have until 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, to reset their passwords or risk being locked out of their accounts.

Due to the service outage, the U of W has extended the winter term until April 12. The exam period has also been rescheduled to April 18 – May 2. In light of all the changes, the move-out date for students living on campus has been moved from April 26 to May 3.

At this point, the U of W is not aware of any loss of information. The investigation is continuing.

The institution says they still plan to start the spring term on time, on May 6.
