University of Winnipeg suspends women’s soccer program and cancels English Language Program

The University of Winnipeg is discontinuing its English Language Program and suspending the women’s soccer program as a result of significant financial challenges facing the university.

UW President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Todd Mondor made the announcement on Tuesday on the school’s website saying that enrollment in the ELP program had dropped dramatically due to changes in federal policies affecting international student mobility.

“As a result, ELP is no longer financially viable. Individual programs currently in progress will run to completion, but no additional programming will be launched,” said Dr. Mondor in the statement.

Dr. Mondor also announced that the women’s soccer program would not return for the 2025 season. They are now working with the affected student-athletes to provide necessary support during this period of change.

They say these necessary changes are “regrettable” but are being made as part of a broader effort to ensure UWinnipeg remains financially stable.
