Visibility severely reduced on highways, blowing snow advisory issued

While an extreme cold warning is in effect for most of Southern Manitoba, part of the region is also under a blowing snow advisory.

Environment Canada issued the advisory shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The advisory covers the following regions:

  •    R.M. of St. François Xavier, Man.
  •    R.M. of Cartier incl. Elie St. Eustache and Springstein, Man.
  •    R.M. of Headingley, Man.
  •    R.M. of Grey incl. St. Claude Elm Creek and Fannystelle, Man.
  •    R.M. of Dufferin incl. Carman Roseisle and Homewood, Man.
  •    R.M. of Macdonald incl. Brunkild Starbuck and La Salle, Man.
  •    Dugald – Beausejour – Grand Beach, Man.
  •    Morden – Winkler – Altona – Morris, Man.
  •    Steinbach – St. Adolphe – Emerson – Vita – Richer, Man.

Winds are expected to reach 60 km/h this afternoon. The strong gusts along with falling snow that is expected could result in poor visibility. West-to-east running roadways will particularly be vulnerable in the southerly winds.

Due to reduced visibility in some locations, travel could be hazardous. Non-essential travel is discouraged until the conditions improve.

Wind gusts are expected to ease early this evening.
