Winds up to 100 km/h expected as warnings expand across southwestern Manitoba

Strong winds are sweeping across southwestern Manitoba today as Environment Canada has expanded its wind warning for the region, warning residents of potential damage.

Areas under the warning include Portage la Prairie, Carman, and Morden, as well as Dauphin, Winnipegosis, and Russell.

The weather agency has updated its advisory to cover a fast-moving Alberta clipper that is bringing westerly and northwesterly gusts up to 100 km/h.

Sustained winds between 60 and 70 km/h are expected to persist throughout the afternoon and early evening, with conditions forecast to ease later tonight.

Communities including Brandon, Melita, and Neepawa remain under warning as well, with residents advised to secure loose items and prepare for possible power outages or fallen tree branches. Damage to roofs and windows is also possible in some areas.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the storm and encourages the public to report severe weather through email or social media.
