Winnipeg-based organization supporting people living with intellectual disabilities celebrates major milestone

A Winnipeg-based organization supporting people living with intellectual disabilities celebrated a special milestone this week.

DASCH Foundation, a non-profit organization and foundation that supports children, youth, and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing safe, inclusive community housing, celebrated 50 years with a community barbecue, cultural displays and games on Tuesday.

“What began in 1974 as a small group of passionate volunteers has grown into a large, diverse team of professionals,” said Amit Bindra, board member of the DASCH Foundation, which helps fund DASCH Inc. “DASCH has seen many incredible changes and growth over the years, becoming a leader in advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities.”

Hundreds of people attended the event, including the Asham Stompers, Ariya Afrika Cultural Dancers and local performers Rylee Sandberg and Kelly Chinchilla.

Nahanni Fontaine, Manitoba’s Minister of Families and Minister responsible for Accessibility, also sent greetings.

“I want to congratulate DASCH Inc. and DASCH Foundation for 50 years of empowering Winnipeggers with intellectual disabilities to live to their full potential,” she said.

Established in 1974, DASCH supports people living in more than 50 homes throughout Winnipeg.
