Winnipeg police arrest two suspects in connection to daytime shooting in Elmwood

Two people are in custody following a shooting in East Elmwood late last week.

Winnipeg police say they were called to the 300 block of Keenleyside Street just before 6 p.m. for the report of a shooting involving a black SUV.

The case was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit which identified the vehicle as a 2019 Dodge Ram.

That vehicle was spotted on Monday at around 1:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway. With help from the Guns and Gangs Unit and the Tactical Support Team, officers were able to stop the SUV.

One person took off but was quickly arrested following a short foot chase. Three others were arrested.

Inside the vehicle, officers located a pump action shotgun and four shotgun shells.

A 29-year-old man from Peguis First Nation and a 32-year-old man from Winnipeg face a long list of charges, including possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition.

They remain in custody. Meanwhile, an adult male and female were released with no charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
