Winnipeg police rescue trapped resident from burning home

One person is in hospital and many others are without a place to live following an early morning fire in the city’s North End.

The fire broke out just after midnight in a two-storey home in the 700 block of Flora Avenue.

Winnipeg police arrived before fire crews arrived and rescued one person from the house. They were transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Fire crews arrived shortly after and found smoke coming from the house. They launched a fire attack and had it under control within a half hour.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team also attended the scene to help displaced residents find temporary accommodations.

The house sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
