Winnipeggers hold group ride to honour cyclist killed in hit and run

A special memorial was held Thursday to remember a cyclist who was fatally struck by a vehicle while cycling along Wellington Crescent last month.

Rob Jenner, 61, was hit by a car, near the corner of Wellington Crescent and Cockburn Ave on June 6, the day after his birthday.

Over 100 people, dressed in Rob’s favourite colour, red, attended the group ride, which saw the cyclists go from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights to the corner of Wellington Crescent and Cockburn Avenue, where they installed a white bike to serve as a memorial for Jenner.

“Thank you so much to our beautiful bike community, friends and family of Rob and Wendy who came out to honour his life. We love you all,” said Bike Winnipeg in a post on Facebook. “Let’s continue to work. Advocacy requires showing up in good times and bad.”

A 19-year-old was charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
