The newly upgraded cricket facilities, which underwent redevelopment to “professional standards” this past spring and summer, include two full-size cricket pitches, new turf, and an updated irrigation system. Batting and bowling cages are expected to be completed later this year.

“We are very pleased to support the continued growth of competitive cricket in Manitoba through the redevelopment of Assiniboine Park’s cricket facilities and grateful to Princess Auto for their community leadership and generous support of this project,” said Ray Karasevich, President & CEO, Assiniboine Park Conservancy in a press release on Tuesday.

Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports in Canada and is gaining popularity in Manitoba. Assiniboine Park has been a hub for competitive cricket since the Manitoba Cricket Association was founded in 1937. The park’s new upgrades are expected to strengthen its status as the premier cricket venue in the province and enhance opportunities for hosting local, regional, and international tournaments.

“As a Winnipeg-based company with nearly 100 years of history, it’s important that we’re active in the community where we live and serve. We’re excited to partner with the Assiniboine Park Conservancy to play a small part in creating great experiences for Winnipeggers,” said Ken Larson, President & CEO, Princess Auto.

The new turf will require time to establish before regular play can resume, with activity expected to begin in 2026. The project was made possible through support from the Province of Manitoba, City of Winnipeg, and Mondetta Canada Inc.
