A 42-year-old man working at a bar on Main Street has been charged with assault causing bodily harm following an incident involving a female customer. The arrest was made on Friday.

The incident occurred on Aug. 30 at around 11:30 p.m. The woman, aged 18, was smoking on the patio of the bar when security staff approached her to inform her that smoking was prohibited. A verbal argument ensued between the patron and security, which escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, the woman fell to the ground, where she was assaulted by the security staff member and rendered unconscious.
The victim required medical treatment for her injuries following the assault. The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and video surveillance footage was reviewed as part of the evidence.
The accused man was released on an undertaking under the Criminal Code and will await further legal proceedings.
