46-year-old suspect arrested for assaulting woman in dorm

The Winnipeg Police Service held a press conference Friday afternoon regarding a suspect in a break, enter and assault that occurred in student housing at the University of Manitoba earlier that morning.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., West District General Patrol officers responded to a call about a male who matched the suspect’s description provided in the police media release.

The suspect was arrested in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway, and was turned over to the Sex Crimes Unit.

Investigators confirmed the accused entered the student building on Dafoe Road.

The 46-year-old Winnipegger has been charged with breaking and entering, sexual assault, robbery and overcoming resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person. He is currently detained in custody.
