Every person in Canada is somehow affected by cancer whether it be facing a diagnosis themselves, with a loved
one, through the eyes of a friend or by a public personality. Everyone either is someone with cancer or knows
someone with cancer.

The 44th annual Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, Sept. 15. The event is a key fundraiser for cancer research, a cause that touches nearly every Canadian.

Jennifer Graham, a Winnipeg resident and cancer survivor, shares her story of overcoming breast cancer, thanks to advancements funded by events like the Terry Fox Run.

“In 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and received amazing specialized treatment right away. It was a difficult battle but I had great professional support and today I am cancer free. I am now able to support others, including several friends and members of my own family as they face their own cancer diagnosis.”

Graham also gives back as a member of the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network, a groundbreaking pan-Canadian initiative led by the Terry Fox Research Institute and the Terry Fox Foundation, which is uniting cancer
patients, researchers, oncologists and administrators from across Canada to improve outcomes and quality of
life of cancer patients.

Nearly 2 in 5 Canadians will face cancer during their lifetime.

As Terry Fox once said, “That’s the thing about cancer. I’m not the only one, it happens all the time to people. I’m not special.”

This year, participants are encouraged to join Terry’s Team, signified by red t-shirts worn by those who have faced or are facing cancer treatment.
