Body found in First Nations Police service chief’s home after fire

A body was found in a home north of High Bluff, in the RM of Portage la Prairie on Wednesday.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a structure fire at the residence off of Road 30 W at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The residence was confirmed as belonging to Doug Palson, Chief of Police for the Manitoba First Nations Police Service.

Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with the Portage la Prairie Fire Department responded to the scene and once the fire was extinguished, investigators discovered human remains in the home. The identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner and RCMP Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
