The search for the three men began after Grand Rapids RCMP were notified at around 7 a.m. on June 28 of the missing boaters on Little Moose Lake near Grand Rapids.

The three men, aged 28, 29 and 31, from Misipawistik Cree Nation, had travelled by boat to the north basin of Lake Winnipeg to hunt moose. They were returning to the community but did not show up at their meeting place, and had not contacted anyone.

On June 29, the body of the 31-year-old was located in the water by Easterville Search and Rescue.

On July 17, a second body was located by searchers on Lake Winnipeg, believed to be that of the 28-year-old missing boater.

Finally on Sunday, the body of the 29-year-old missing boater was recovered with the assistance of local searchers and the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART).

“The RCMP would like to thank all the people, communities and organizations that came together to assist during this tragic time,” Manitoa RCMP said.

A number of resources were deployed to the area including several Search and Rescue groups and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre assisting in the search.
