Brandon Police (BPS) said that on Jan. 12, around 12:55 p.m., they got a call about a man hitting another man “in the face with a baseball bat,” on 7th Street in the western Manitoba city.

Police said a 43-year-old man randomly approached a 67-year-old man who he did not know, and began attacking him with a bat completely unprovoked.

“The victim did not know the accused, nor was there any conflict that led to the assault,” BPS said.

The 43-year-old man was located by police on Rosser Avenue in Brandon and arrested.

The 67-year-old victim was sent to hospital in an ambulance and required stitches, BPS said.

Police said the 43-year-old also had injuries when he was arrested, but police could not determine the source of those injuries, because the man refused to cooperate with police.

The suspect was treated for his injuries in hospital and is in custody awaiting a court date.
