Break-and-enter spree nets slew of charges for Winnipeg men

Winnipeg police responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a restaurant in the 200 block of Provencher Boulevard. Officers found a smashed window and two suspects inside. The suspects attempted to flee, with one being apprehended immediately. The second suspect ran, prompting a foot chase during which he sprayed bear spray directly at an officer. Despite being sprayed, the officer was able to apprehend the suspect and place him in handcuffs. A knife was found in the suspect’s possession, violating court orders. The officer received medical treatment for bear spray exposure.

The suspects were turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, which linked them to more than 15 commercial break-ins through CCTV footage. These incidents primarily targeted restaurants in St. James and Provencher neighbourhoods, with approximately $10,000 worth of alcohol stolen.

November 3: A restaurant in the 800 block of St. James Street.

November 5: The same restaurant on St. James Street.

November 8: The same restaurant on St. James Street, a restaurant on Madison Street, and another on St. Matthews Avenue.

November 9: A beauty salon on Henderson Highway.

November 10: Restaurants on Euclid Avenue and Madison Street.

November 12: Businesses on Sargent Avenue, St. James Street, Empress Street, Century Street, and Border Street.

November 18: A restaurant on Provencher Boulevard.

December 1: A bar and a tattoo business on Provencher Boulevard.

December 2: A restaurant on Provencher Boulevard.

A 35-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with 17 break-and-enter offences, possession of a weapon, and four outstanding warrants. A 23-year-old Winnipeg man faces charges of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, assault with a weapon, possession of weapons, and break-and-enter theft, along with two outstanding warrants. Both remain in custody as the investigation continues.
