“The fire maintained its size through the night so it remains stable at 330 hectares,” the City of Flin Flon posted in a wildfire update on the city’s social media pages on Saturday afternoon. “The evacuation alert will remain in place for another week.”

On Thursday afternoon, Flin Flon issued what they were calling an ‘evacuation standby’ notice with all residents advised to prepare emergency kits and be ready to evacuate, if necessary, on short notice.

The Wilson Wildfire also threatens neighbouring Saskatchewan communities of Creighton and Denare Beach with Creighton also placed on evacuation standby although there was still no evacuation order as of Saturday.

The wind direction is expected to shift and the fire to burn back on itself, the City of Flin Flon said in its post Saturday. A fire ban remains in place for Creighton, Denare and Flin Flon. About 30 ground crew staff are advancing on the fires south and south east face but no air support is required at this time while ground crews are mobilizing on the fire.

While no evacuation has been ordered, Flin Flon residents were being urged to pre-register with the Manitoba Emergency Social Services registration page in the event it becomes necessary.
