The victim and another child were at Niji Mahkwa elementary school on Flora Avenue at about 5:15 p.m. when a man approached them, made sexually explicit comments and “then grabbed one of the children and touched her in a sexual manner,” Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.

Police said the victim broke free, and both children ran home to tell an adult, who contacted police. No medical attention was required. The victim was an elementary school student, police said.

The suspect is described as a Black man in his 20s, with dreadlocks.

Police notified the school about the incident and said Niji Mahkwa will be contacting parents about student awareness and safety planning.

The WPS is asking anyone with information about the suspect or video of the man or incident to contact the child abuse unit at 204-986-6350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
