Cops provide emergency care for several weekend stab victims

Winnipeg police officers were forced to fill first responder roles at a number of stabbings this weekend.

Tactical support team officers applied a tourniquet to a man with a serious lower-body injury after a brawl at the Smitty’s restaurant on St. James Avenue early Sunday morning. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but later upgraded to stable.

Chest seals were applied at a pair of stabbings later Sunday morning — one at 1:45 a.m. in the 300 block of Maryland Street where a male in his 50s was injured and another five minutes later in the area of Salter Street and Anderson Avenue for a man in his 20s.

On Saturday afternoon at about 2:15 p.m., patrol officers applied pressure to a stabbing wound suffered by an adult male in the area of Carlton Street and Cumberland Avenue.

The unrelated incidents are being investigated by the major crimes unit.
