Customers threatened with knives in parking lot, man facing charges

A 56-year-old man from Winnipeg faces multiple charges after two people were threatened with knives in the parking lot of the Costco wholesale store on Regent Avenue on Saturday.

A 56-year-old male and 56-year-old female sought help from a Winnipeg Police Service officer assigned to special duty at the warehouse at about 1:30 p.m., police said.

They said the man approached them in the parking lot and threatened them while brandishing two knives. Officers found the man in the parking lot, arrested him without incident and seized two knives, police said.

The man faces two charges each of assault with a weapon, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

He was detained in custody.
