Mounties are investigating the death of a woman in her northwestern Manitoba home earlier this month as a homicide.

Swan River RCMP were called to a residence in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, about 90 kilometres northeast of Swan River, on July 8 after a report of a sudden death, RCMP said in a news release on Friday.

A 54-year-old woman was found dead inside her home.

An autopsy was conducted and it has been determined that the woman died as the result of an injury sustained in the days prior to her death, RCMP said. Her death is now being investigated as a homicide.

RCMP Major Crime Services has taken over the investigation.
