The couple were in their home in the 300 block of Talbot Avenue on Thursday at around 5 p.m., when they told police an unknown male broke in through a window and wandered around their house, rummaging through property and trying to hide. Initially, they told police that they thought they heard shots but realized it was the smashing sound of him breaking in.

They managed to safely get out of the house and called police and waited in their vehicle a safe distance away.

General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, arrived and made contact with the suspect, who was still inside. He eventually exited, was taken into custody, and appeared to be intoxicated.

A 23-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges of break and enter with intent and when he sobered up was released on an Undertaking as per the Criminal Code, police said.
