Late Wednesday night, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a water rescue on the Assiniboine River near the Assiniboine Park bridge.

At 10:18 p.m., WFPS crews were alerted to an individual seen drifting in the river’s current. Responders staged along strategic points and crews water rescue boats were deployed while collaborating with the Winnipeg Police Service, aided by WPS drone and Air-1 assistance.
The individual was successfully located near Ferry Road and Park Boulevard North. They swiftly brought the person to safety and provided immediate medical assessment and treatment. The patient, whose reasons for entering the water were unclear, was transported to hospital in stable condition.
WFPS emphasized the heightened risks posed by Winnipeg’s waterways following recent heavy rains, cautioning residents about the swift currents and potential debris in the river. Vigilance and caution are urged when near any of the city’s water bodies.
