Five charged after traffic stop leads to firearm seizure

Winnipeg police have charged five individuals following a traffic stop on Nov. 10 involving an unregistered red Jeep Grand Cherokee at Portage Avenue and Arlington Street intersection.

During the stop, police said officers observed a revolver inside the vehicle while attempting to identify the driver and four passengers.

The Guns and Gangs Unit were called to the scene, and all five occupants were arrested without incident. Police seized a loaded .22 revolver with ammunition. The firearm’s serial number was found to be tampered with and not legible. Investigators confirmed that all five individuals were known to each other.

A 35-year-old Winnipeg man faces multiple charges, including possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, tampering with a firearm’s serial number, and failing to comply with probation orders. He remains in custody.

A 31-year-old man from Winnipeg faces similar charges, including firearm offences and traffic violations for driving without a valid license or insurance.

A 33-year-old man has been charged with firearm possession and probation violations, while a 37-year-old man faces charges related to firearm offences.

A 29-year-old woman has also been charged with firearm possession offences.

The four other accused were released on undertakings as required by the Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
