Folklorama celebrates growth of cultural celebration in 2024

Traffic at Winnipeg’s summer cultural celebration continues to grow.

Folklorama’s two-week event saw 296,854 visits, including 23,707 children under 12 with free admission, a 4% increase from the previous year.

It was the festival’s 53rd year and the curtain went down on the the world’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival of its kind (as recognized by the Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts) on Saturday.

This year the festival featured 38 Pavilions and welcomed guests from around the world.

There were 186 group tours, comprising 6,563 guests, were organized, reflecting a 16% increase in participation from 2023. Volunteers played a crucial role, with over 16,400 contributing to the Festival’s operations.

“We are thrilled to see the strong turnout and the ongoing positive response from Winnipeggers and those visiting alike,” said Teresa Cotroneo, Folklorama’s executive director in a release. “This Festival continues to be a testament to the strength and vibrancy of our community and an opportunity for us to learn more about our roots or explore a culture we are keen to get to know. We are grateful to everyone who participated and volunteered making Folklorama53 the best two weeks of summer.”

The 54th Folklorama is scheduled for Aug. 3rd to 16th, 2025.
