The City of Winnipeg is a poop show! We got further proof of that this week when an audit uncovered a number of serious problems with how the city is run and how it handles its workers, including those at the very top. From 2018 to 2022, 67% of employees didn’t undergo a performance evaluation. And it’s apparently gone on for many years. Not only is this inexcusable but it’s also a gross waste of our tax dollars, maybe many millions of them. I don’t know about you but I pay way too much in property taxes. I want a city government and administration that stretches my money as far as possible through efficiencies and making sure the civic workforce is as productive as possible. Not having specific job descriptions in place and not controlling overtime closely isn’t the way to do that. Things need to change at 510 Main Street! I also don’t think the people who have let this slide for so long are the right ones to bring about change which is obviously and badly needed. Mayor Scott Gillingham says there are now lots of discussions happening ahead of Tuesday’s meeting of Executive Policy Committee. I guess we’ll see what happens if anything. But I believe it’s time for government to start operating like business. This billion-dollar business, owned by us, is in big trouble and I think it’s long past time to make changes in key positions.

CARBERRY CRASH ANNIVERSARY
Saturday is the one-year anniversary of the deadly Carberry crash. 17 people lost their lives when a bus and semi-trailer collided at the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5. RCMP say they’ve sent their investigational package to the Crown for a decision on whether charges should be laid, even though they haven’t yet interviewed the driver of the bus who was badly hurt along with two dozen others. Regardless of the Crown’s decision, it’s a tragedy all around and I send my love and prayers to everyone impacted by what happened on June 15, 2023.
SPAVING, THE LATEST TREND
Spaving is basically spending now to save later. It’s really a new name for something that’s been around for a long time. Financial experts say people should just forget about these spaving offers and only buy what they absolutely need right now. Don’t give in to spending minimums to get free shipping or subscriptions or the good old buy one, get one. Only buy what you originally intended to buy.

The two men haven’t faced off against each other like this in 15 years.
COSTCO SELLING BOLLARDS
Social media says Costco in Canada is selling driveway security bollards to prevent car theft. According to CostcoCanadaFinds on TikTok, a set of manual retractable bollards is going for $569.99. However, some commenters aren’t so sure the vertical steel posts would go up and down very well in winter’s snow and ice.
DOODOO CELEBRATES 30
Congrats to DooDoo the International Clown on his 30th Red River Ex. If you haven’t seen DooDoo at the Ex, which is now underway, you might remember him from Adam Sandler’s hit movie Billy Madison where he played himself and sang a short song after falling off stilts. DooDoo is also known for saving two women from being assaulted in Toronto a few years back.
